That's the last time I participate in a DA contest

I'm going to start out with saying I am not so conceited I feel I should have won with my sculptures, I know they were not that good, but the thing that really irks me is every DA contest seems to follow a trend. They ask deviants to be unique, they say we can use any medium for the contest, they tell us we can be abstract.

Then when it comes time to judge, what do they do? They choose almost all digital art (out of 25 semi finalists, 23 were digital), mostly by popular artists, many which don't fit the theme, and a few which broke the rules of the contest.

There were so many amazing traditional pieces of art submitted to this contest and yet the pieces chosen as semi finalists were all digital save for two token pieces which have no chance of winning.

This post is half because I felt like ranting, and half as a public service announcement. Don't waste your time and effort with DA contests unless you do all your art on a computer.

I remember being so upset when I entered so many contests years ago, did my watercolours (which, looking back, were shit), and never winning a thing. Even other artists who did traditional work, and some o it was absolutely stunning, lost to digital artists, and the holders friends. One artist, held a contest for a plush OC pony, and she chose one of her DA friends, and the runner up was another digital artist, who was also a friend. She did have 10 runners up, and 3 or so were traditional, but still, of the 12 she chose as her favourite, 9 were digital. I find it so sad!
